Biden will discuss “fiscal cliff” deal with House Democrats

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Vice President Joe Biden will meet with fellow Democrats in the House of Representatives on Tuesday to discuss the “fiscal cliff” deal that he forged with Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, a Democratic aide said. The meeting is to be held at the Capitol at 12:15 p. m. ET (1715 GMT). Biden needed to help sell Senate Democrats on the deal before they joined Republicans at about 2 a. m. Gunmen in Pakistan shoot dead five women aid workers near capital

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (Reuters) – Gunmen ambushed and shot dead five Pakistani women aid workers and a male colleague on Tuesday, police said. Their vehicle was raked with gunfire as they returned home from work at a children’s community centre run by Pakistani charity Ujala, or Light, said district police officer Abdur Rashid Khan. Their driver was seriously wounded in the attack. The motive for the shooting in Swabi district, about 75 km (45 miles) northwest of the capital of Islamabad, was not clear and no one at Ujala was immediately available for comment. . . .
