Critical Gamer writes: This article has at its core quotes and statistics from Dr. Richard Wilson, CEO of The Independent Games Developers Association (TIGA), speaking exclusively to Critical Gamer.
The industry has much to thank British developers for. Grand Theft Auto (Rockstar North, formerly DMA Design); LittleBigPlanet (Media Molecule); Project Gotham Racing (Bizarre Creations); Burnout (Criterion); Tomb Raider (the now defunct Core Design); looking further back, Goldeneye 007 (Rare), Driver (Ubisoft Reflections, but then Reflections Interactive), and Lemmings (DMA Design again) to name but a very few. We could in fact fill this whole page with games developed in the UK that have met with huge worldwide success, or have in some other way had an important and permanent influence on the industry.
Our British readers – particularly the older ones – may raise a smile at the mention of games from much older platforms such as the Amiga, Spectrum and C64 such as Skool Daze, Cannon Fodder, Jet Set Willy, Manic Miner, and Dizzy. It was back when graphics were little more than carefully directed smudges on the screen, in fact, that much loved classic Elite was developed. British developers have given the games industry an incalculable amount of revenue and kudos, and players an equal amount of fun, in the past. What can we expect from the UK in the future?

The North American console versions of DICE’s Battlefield: Bad Company 2 are saddled with an unusual multiplayer restriction: for the first month following the game’s release, only those who preordered the game from GameStop will have access to the game’s "Squad Rush" multiplayer mode.
The mode is an objective-based battle between two teams of four players each. Those with preorder-based access will also be able to invite their friends to play with them throughout the 30-day exclusivity period.
PC copies of Bad Company 2, which share a March 2 release date with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, have no such multiplayer restrictions, nor do any of the European SKUs launching three days later.

Mike Kebby on EU Playstation Blog writes:
"Final Fantasy VIII…
…sorry, did I need to say anymore than that this week?
Ahem. We’ve got a real mixed bag of content this week, starting with a new batch of special offers, including our first ever promotion for some of our minis titles. These feature some of our best-selling minis, and help us to kick off minis month with a little bit of style. We’ll also be celebrating with another batch of reduced minis titles in a couple of weeks, so keep your eyes peeled for those too.
We have two demos for the highly anticipated titles Battlefield Bad Company 2 and Aliens vs. Predator; I feel we’re servicing our shooter fans especially well this week.
Throw in a couple of new minis titles, lots of game add-ons and a sprinkling of videos and you get this week’s helping of PSN goodness. Om nom nom, how do you like them ap…titles. "

Unfortunately, Amazon. com doesn’t seem to be running the same deal. "
