Liguilla 2010 – The Playoffs

May 7th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol 1 Comment »

Pachuca fans esperando. Cruz Azul aficionados mirando su reloj. Entonces la meta. Los golpes lugar arriba.Eche un vistazo:

Libertadores: Guadalajara beats Velez

April 30th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol 1 Comment »

April 22nd, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol No Comments »

Chivas win 8 in a row; Ref wears an America jersey?

April 16th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol No Comments »

Chivas took on San Luis in a pretty tough game. Bofo got the first goal, by way of a mistake by goalkeeper Adrian Martinez. Javier Hernandez drew a penalty later on, and missed the PK. Luckily the ball was recoverd and centered to an open Reynoso for the 2-0 win.
America got a win vs Estudiantes in a controversial 2-1 scoreline. There were questionable no calls by the ref that could have resulted in penalty kicks in favor of Estudiantes. Miguel Herrera went off during the press conference and was so steamed that he also went on Futbol Picante. This guy was upset. Here is a clip.

He basically was asked by my main man, Hector Huerta, if the ref had the America jersey on. Herrera said that the ref was wearing the America jersey on top, not underneath. The idea that America has the ref in their pocket is nothing new. They are a rich team and knee-jerk reactions are that they bough the ref.

Chivas streak is over! America blows Queretaro away! More from week 9

April 16th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol No Comments »

Chivas traveled to Chiapas to take on a Jaguares team who hasn’t won a game at home since sometime last year. They went in looking for 9 wins in a row. Chiapas came out playing well, and the Chivas offense couldn’t get anything going, all attempts to fast offensive runs were shut down by the Jaguares defense. The first goal came from a long distance shot. Michel could do nothing to stop it, even though he dived to make some sort of attempt.
Then the onslaught came on in the 2nd half. Chiapas scored 3 more goals and the game finished 4-0. Something to note in this game is that Omar Bravo seems to be a frustrated little man. He didn’t get a good ball in the first half and threw a little fit at Omar Esparza. Then he made sure he walked out to complain to the ref after the game. I hear it was his birthday and with him missing out on any National Team call ups, he is probably very frustrated. Bofo needs to do more than what he is. He is hailed as a Cuauhtemoc type of player, but is not amounting to anything.
In other match ups, Cruz Azul is getting back on track, beating San Luis. Blas Perez is still semi alive as he did score the only goal for San Luis. Haven’t heard much from Braulio Luna as of late. Monterrey is riding high, and catching up to Chivas. They beat Pachuca, and it seems like they are losing their powerhouse image. Miguel Calero is losing his ability to be cocky. Sort of like Atlante goalkeeper, Federico Vilar, who lost their game vs Santos on Sunday. Atlas and Toluca tied. Estudiantes received another loss against Morelia, and had no excuses this time. They just aren’t that good, no matter what Piojo Herrera thinks.
On Sunday there were more goals, this time from Club America. They put Queretaro away 6 goals to 0. It must have been embarrassing for coach Carlos Reinoso that he couldn’t stand to watch any longer so he decided to get himself thrown out of the game and then suspended for 3 games. In Juarez it was the “Relegation League” as Tigres and Indios threw down. Tigres won 1-0 even suffering 2 red cards in the game. Things are not good in Juarez.
This was an exciting weekend of play in the Mexican league. Next week should be more of the same. Chivas will take on Pumas in Jalisco, as they try to recover from their first loss of the season.

Jesus Corona apologizes

April 15th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol No Comments »

I covered previously the scandal that Cruz Azul goalkeeper got himself into. There were two conflicting stories. Jesus Corona stated it was his cousin that attacked Julio Rivera. Julio Rivera stated is was Jesus Corona.
Jesus Corona, now apologizes and accepts responsibility. Liar Liar, pants on fire. I think his NT chances for the World Cup is done. He barely gets playing time with Cruz Azul. He states that he did it to defend his family.
Apparently there is a video of his father trying to convince Julio not to make a big deal of the situation. This looks very bad. What was Jesus thinking? Was it the pressure of trying to keep his good name? Trying to maintain his job as CA starting keeper? Not ruin his chances with the NT? His lies and dishonesty just ruined everything and made things worse.
That’s a lesson for you boys and girls. Be honest and man up when you need to.

Exciting weekend in the Mexican League

April 15th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol 2 Comments »

This weekend had some interesting things to look forward to. Some controversial whining, some recent bad results from powerhouse Chivas and some questionable goalkeeping.
To start it off, lets mention during the week that Puebla coach got all upset and arranged a press conference to tell everyone that if Puebla didn’t win on Sunday vs America that he would resign. Sounds like an upset guy. From his interview he stated that the players need to be motivated and that maybe they needed a new guy at the helm. I think he is really upset at his players and wants to try to motivate them. I also think he is partially acting like a whiny baby. So Puebla goes out and wins the match 2-1. A good result and Chelis gets to continue with Puebla. Now all we have to do is wait for the next drama.
Next, as part of the same Puebla / America game, lets focus on goalkeeping. We all have seen the sorry attempt to block a North Korean shot on goal by Memo Ochoa with the Mexican National Team not too long ago. This time a sharp and low shot by Puebla left Memo eating another block-able shot on goal. Is this really the best goalkeeper Mexico has? Michel looks good with Chivas but tends to look lost and out of place in my view of him with the NT. Corona, has pretty much ruined his chances by demonstrating poor play with Cruz Azul, oh and also by beating that one dude to a pulp. Oswaldo is on Aguirre’s ban list for some reason, but he himself has had is share of blunders. In the end, Mexico may go to South Africa with goalkeeping as a weakness.
Lastly, Chivas who as been suffering lately, got a convincing win vs Santos in Jalisco. There was some controversy when Chichario Hernandez went in for an out of reach long ball and was knocked down by a Santos defender. Chiquidracula called the penalty to put Chivas up 3-2. Yes, defender Hector Reynoso took it and got it past Oswaldo. Oswaldo was furious and got a red card at the half. The rest was all Chivas who took the game 6-2. One thing to not is that in the past Chiquidracula, AKA Marco Antonio Rodriquez, has been known to ref games in favor of hated America, but now that he seems to do it in favor of the beloved Rebaño, no one says pio. Interesting.
Odiame mas!

Mexican League Super Classic weekend

April 14th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol No Comments »

Sounds like a bargain headline at your local fiesta mart.
So this Sunday Chivas takes on their biggest rival the Aguilas de America. Last year talk was about this match being watered down. It seems now that more focus than ever is on it. Chivas is on a high this year. America has had their current head coach for more than a week. Ok, that’s not fair. America has done fairly well, considering they have lost their best player. The Aguilas still seem confident and trust in their ability to win. Chucho Ramirez has stated that he wants his team to win for the fans. It has been a turbulent season for the fans, with Cabañas getting hurt, then Ochoa failing, as well as Pavel not getting called to the NT.
Alert! Alert! Chicharito is hurt! Cheesy or not that rhymed and is a truth that may hurt Chivas. In a practice session Javier “el chicharito” Hernandez got hurt and may miss the Classic. We will have to wait and see. I think he will be ok, and end up playing. Worst scenario would be he come in as a substitution.
Even without Chicharito, I think that Chivas takes this match. It will be an interesting duel of goalkeepers as well. Hopefully we get a good ref’d game, and maybe a little bit of physical tension and competition. Not a fight or anything but some passion and determination to win. We need some pride for the Jersey and battle out on the field for their team and colors.
Get ready for the action!

Classic Weekend turns into Chicken Roast

April 14th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol No Comments »

Chivas at pollo this weekend as they win the superclasico 1-0 in Jalisco stadium. The goal came from Omar Arellano as he cut down the right side past Aguila defenders and beat Memo Ochoa on his post side, for the goal. Prior to this goal, which happened at minute 35, America had control of the game with some opportunities at goal.
Lets analyze the goalkeeping:
Michel came up and blocked all America attempts. I will say that these shots on goal came at Michel around head height, where he could deflect with his already reaised hands. On the other hand the shot on Memo Ochoa was near and with the foot close to the ground. Memo’s reaction time was useless to block Omar Arellano’s shot, without the luck of being in the right place at the right time. Unfortunately for Memo, he was not at the right place at the right time. He left his post open. This is a basic rule for keepers. Don’t get beat on the post side. It would have been much easier for Omar to shoot and make it if Memo would have left his right side open instead of his left/post. On his right side, the shot may have gone wide, defenders would have blocked it, or Omar would have been forced to use “3 toes” or his left foot to curve the ball in the far post. Which would have been significantly harder than going near post, like he did. Bad on Memo.
Chivas deserved the win and continues on to a great season. The sad thing is, that with players going to NT world cup preparation, their season may come to a disappointing finish.
Check out the results of this match. Blasphemy!
