Interliga 2010: Puebla shines, Tigres not so much

February 4th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol No Comments »

Puebla put Jaguares pretty much out of the tournament with a 1-0 win last night. Puebla is a team that may not have a big name, but always seems to show heart and come up with good wins. Not to say I would like to see them in Libertadores, because they would most likely get crushed. Most likely.
Tigres vs Monterrey was the late game. The “Classico del Norte”. Same city rivals took the field. The Champion and the mediocre. Tigres impressed and scored the first goal by a nice volley from Tahuilan. Nice bounce back to him for strong shot to the back of the net. Could Tigres do it? Could they pull it off. Keep in mind the Rayados did not have Chupete or Aldo in the starting lineup. NO! Jose Maria Basanta scored to tie it up and thats how it ended. How disappointing.

Player Rumors: Cabañas, JP Garcia, Gata Fernandez

February 4th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol No Comments »

Ive found Twitter a good way to keep up with news and various topics. I am following @mediotiempo from mediotiempo. com and they report the following rumors:
1. JP Garcia and Gata Fernandez have been seperated from Tigres. Interesting to see what further info comes about on this. Were they kicked out? Sent to another team? JP is a guy who used to be good, but havent heard much from him in a long while. Gata, well, they say hes good and at times he is, but Tigres is Tigres, unfortunately.
2. S. Cabañas reportedly going to Sunderland. This week!? This is big, because if true, America’s goal to be champion this year has just been made more difficult. Salvador Cabañas IS Club America!
Update:
Here is an article:

@mediotiempo reports that America says Cabañas is not going to Sunderland.

Final Interliga 2010

February 4th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol No Comments »

What a night of Football. More so for the 1st game, but the 2nd wasn’t all that bad.
Tecos vs Puebla – Of these 2 teams, I think Puebla played their previous games better. Tecos almost got ripped by America in their last game, but made an impressive come back. Today would be the same, but better. Puebla impressed in the first half and scored 2 goals to take the lead. They had plenty of other opportunities that were missed. Tecos came back, with vengance all props to Pony Ruiz. This is a gray haired, old, short guy, who runs and plays like a youngster. Very impressive for many years in the Mexican League. He basically took Tecos on his shoulders for the come back win. Pony scored the 1st 2 goals, and even one of them off a header. This guy is clutch. The game winner came off a pass that Ruiz started and cut down the middle by Ruben Sambueza. Tecos to Libertadores with 3-2 win.
Monterrey vs America – This match was a conservative one, both teams being careful and hoping not to give up the goal. America had better chances, once with Cabañas hitting the post, just missing a goal. Memo Ochoa made one save coming out of the box to ruin Monterrey’s chance. So penalties had to be turned to. Here is where America failed miserably, missing 3 out of 4. Cabañas, Mosquera and Pardo. Monterrey is champ and deservedly so. How exciting to win the Apertura and now Interliga. I just hope they can make a good showing. Maldonado should be a helpful addition.

Cabañas: Shot and in Hospital

February 4th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol 5 Comments »

Salvador Cabañas, goal scorer for Club America, was shot in a Bar last night/this morning. Reports from the police and confirmed by Michel Bauer, President of the team, are that he is in intensive care in the hospita. He was shot in the forehead and the bullet is still lodged in his body.
Good news is that Salvador was able to talk to the doctors and answer the question they had for him. His wife is in contact with Michel Bauer and he gave this report to Primero Noticias.
2 suspects have been detained.
Fellow Paraguayan, Christian Riveros and Dario Veron are at the hospital awaiting reports.
Lets hope for the best and keep him in our prayers.
### Update ###
Salvador Cabañas was in surgery and just got out. He is sedated and he will stay that way for an undetermined amount of time. His life is out of danger. Reports are that they could not dislodge the bullet.
Definitely more to come. Atleast some good news for now. There have been a lot of contradicting reports going around on different websites.

Bicentennial Tournament: 2 weeks down, on 3rd

February 4th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol 2 Comments »

The first 2 weeks have been entertaining, as the top teams are doing better than previous tourneys. This is just the start however. Chivas and America both start out with wins. Chivas really had the talent all the time, just didn’t have the cohesion and chemistry. America always has talent and I am still not fully confident in their chances this year, but they started out with a win, only to lose in week 2 to Morelia. Here are the big 4 last 2 scorelines:
Week3
Jaguares 0-1 Cruz Azul
Chivas 3-1 Toluca
Pumas 2-0 Atlas
America 5-1 San Luis
Week 2
Cruz Azul 0-0 Pumas
Tigres 1-3 Chivas
Morelia 2-0 America
This week is a solemn one with the Chava incident. Salvador is slowly improving, with some movement and improvement to his head injury. Things are looking up for him. Stay tuned to Primero Noticias if you can or follow @Mediotiempo, @FutPicante on twitter for updates.
Big match to watch on Saturday is Monterrey vs Cruz Azul. The rematch! A Cruz Azul loss would continue the trend of humiliation. One of these days CA is going to win one, but they may have the same troubles the Mexican National Team does…Finishing.
Chivas has really impressed. They dont seem to be missing Ramon Morales. Bofo doesnt play the full match and doesnt even start. The difference maker has been Javier Hernandez. This guy is shooting for a national team spot with 4 goals in 2 games. Goal scoring leader for now, but this is a guy who has the potential to keep it up. Venado Medina has been playing well and actually giving good passes for a change. Then there are Bofo and Omar Arellano coming off the bench. Oh and a little guy called Omar Bravo.
Should be an exciting and pensative week 3.
