Final: Monterrey Champion

February 4th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol No Comments »

Sorry so tardy. What a Final! Very exciting, a lot of goals a bit of a twist. Mostly a deserved champion.
1st Game:
In Monterrey, Cruz Azul came out with the first 4 goals. Ok, 1 was an own goal. This had hopes of turning out Monterreys way. 1st half was all Cruz Azul.
2nd Half though was all Monterrey and they came out to win the game 4-3, with goal by Suazo and Santana. What excitement and a let down for Cruz Azul. It looked like yet again they were going to choke at the end.
2nd Game
Aldo DeNigris started the scoring with the first goal and hopes were high. Cruz Azul got it back, but Suazo finished them with a nice goal past Corona.
Monterrey deserved this championship, they played with heart. The match of goalkeepers was definitely won by Orozco. Corona looked bad on many occasions, especially on that ball that went through his legs for a Suazo goal in the first leg.
Congrats Monterrey.

Interliga 2010

February 4th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol No Comments »

Hope you have a happy new years.
To start the year off we have the Interliga tournament. The fight for the 2 spots in the Copa Libertadores tournament will be fought out in the lower United States.
Here are the groups:
Group A
America
Santos
Atlante
Tecos
Group B
Monterrey
Tigres
Puebla
Jaguares
This Saturday the matches will begin with Atlante vs Tecos and America vs Santos.
Jesus Ramirez, head coach, for Club America is always in the news with a positive attitude. He has been quoted as saying he wants to see Club America as Champion in 2010 in the Mexican League. They are definitely the favorite for group A. Santos will be a contender, even Atlante, who didn’t do too bad in the Club World Cup, but didn’t do anything great either.
Monterrey in group B, seems to have the easier group. I expect the Rayados to do well against city rival Tigres as well as Jaguares. Puebla will come out fighting. Anyone with the motivator of Jose Luis Sanchez Sola as head coach is sure to make it a challenging match.
Make sure to Tune in. My pics will be America and Monterrey taking their groups and heading to the South American Tournament.

Cuauhtemoc and Veracruz Lose 1-3

February 4th, 2010 admin Posted in Futbol No Comments »

So Cuauhtemoc makes his debut with Veracruz and they end up losing 1-3 in Veracruz. They took the loss vs an Orizaba team who accompanies Veracruz in the Mexican 2nd Division (Liga de Ascenso/Primera A).
Cuauh says that the team needs more time to get used to each other. He wishes they would have had more preparation games.
Cuauh is great and one of the key players for the National Team, but I don’t really expect much to happen in Veracruz. I think of this stint in Veracruz as just keeping Cuauh in rhythm for the World Cup. I do recall when Cuauh was with Veracruz in the 1st Division and how he lead the team to the best record in the league. I wont say that Veracruz wont be promoted to 1st Division once again, because of Cuauhtemoc, but I have my doubts. It seems too much like a one man team. I do wish them luck.
