Turning 50 in Oaxaca ? A Celebration of the Senses
By: Lisa Coleman20 years ago I sat on the shores of Playa la Ropa in Zihuatanejo celebrating my 30th birthday. My dear friend from Switzerland told me she had planned a party on the beach. It sounded great, but since this was a new destination for me, turns out she was the only person I knew when I arrived at my own fiesta. A gorgeous table covered with plates of fresh fish, flowers and gifts came courtesy of the locals ? people I?d never met, friends I didn?t even know I had.

What a beautiful story, Lisa, as only you can tell it. You certainly picked the right spots for such an event. Next time you come (before your 60th please) how about trying my bit of paradise here in Tepoztlan. I’d love to see you again. Vivi Mexico.

Love this article. I read Suzanne’s about.com articles about Mexico….but, somehow I didn’t realize Suzanne was a guide in Oaxaca. I found just the type of information I like in this article. I was at the Tianguis but, unfortunately, I got sick and missed alot. I had hoped to meet some of you writers there. Thanks Lisa and Happy Birthday.
Also, Carmen – from your comment I checked your books and bought one on my Kindle.

Ay amiga, what a fabulous trip–a voyage down memory lane as well as a voyage into your future. It had to be magical Oaxaca, the perfect place for your celebration.
Welcome to the second half of life!

I lovely blog post and so glad to hear that Hacienda los Laureles is going strong. It is one of my favorite hotels as well. We stayed there shortly after it was first opened, with Kaiser calling my daughter “la princesa” the entire week, and I later used it as inspiration for a fictional hotel in one of my books! Happy Birthday and many happy returns of the day.
