Switzerland?s tennis legend Roger Federer has won his seventh Wimbledon title, tying the record with Pete Sampras for most wins. In an epic-battle to the finish, the 30-year-old beat Great Britain?s hopeful Andy Murray 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 at the All England Club in London on Sunday (July 8). The defeat marks the champions 17th Grand Slam title overall and he said, ?It’s amazing. It equals me with Pete Sampras, who’s my hero,? adding, ?It just feels amazing. “When the roof closed over the pair, it was game on for Federer who said, ?I’m happy that closing the roof maybe helped me today, because I wasn’t sure if that was going to help me or not. ?Even Murray gave credit to the environment saying, ?When the roof closed, he played unbelievable tennis. ?The tennis legend was excitedly greeted by his wife and twin daughters after he fell to his knees in tears once he landed the match point. Celebrities including David and Victoria Beckham came to witness the historic event in hopes for Murray to take home the title. Although he didn?t win, the 25-year-old athlete was grateful for the support and said, ?Everybody always talks about the pressure of playing at Wimbledon, how tough it is. It’s not the people watching. They make it so much easier to play. The support has been incredible, so thank you. ”
