++ As the world marked International Women’s Day the United Nations reprimanded Mexico publicly because women’s participation in politics is diminishing, because women in Mexico are limited in their access to the labor market and authorities have failed to reduce the rate of maternal death during childbirth. ++ At an event to mark International Women’s Day President Felipe Calderón said his government promotes actions to guarantee gender equality… To that end, he said, taxes levied on Mexican citizens go to cover the basic necessities of the population…++ Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard criticized conservative authorities in Mexico who condemn the advances achieved in Mexico City with regard to liberties and respect for women. ++ PAN deputies caucus leader Josefina Vázquez Mota, said her group was not aware of the anti-alliances pact reached between her party and the PRI. ++ State of Mexico governor Enrique Peña Nieto denied that the agreement between the PRI and the PAN included approval of the Income Law. ++ The new political front called Dialogue for the Reconstruction of Mexico, or DIA, submitted a complaint to the Federal Electoral Institute, IFE, charging that Interior Secretary Fernando Gómez Mont and State of Mexico Governor Enrique Peña Nieto, acted wrongfully by taking part in the agreement between PRI and PAN stipulating that the PAN would not enter into alliances with other parties in elections in that state. ++ PT senators announced that they will this week seek to initiate impeachment trials for Interior Secretary Fernando Gómez Mont, and for State of Mexico Governance Secretary, Luis Enrique Miranda, since they were honor witnesses in the anti-alliance agreement signed by PRI and PAN. ++ Mexico City ombudsman Luis González Plascencia, asked the country’s religious congregations to respect achievements in human rights in Mexico City… The ombudsman’s remarks were in connection to new laws allowing homosexual couples to marry in Mexico City.
