++ The Federal Public Security Secretariat presented Teodoro García Simental, known as “El Teo,” and who is accused of being Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán’s right-hand man and one of the most-wanted drug traffickers in the United States and Mexico because of his ties to the Sinaloa drug cartel. The drug trafficker known as “El Teo,” and who is a suspect in 300 execution-style murders, was captured in La Paz, in Baja California Sur, after a five-month investigation. ++ The Congressional Permanent Committee, concerned by the wave of violence hitting Mexico, will call on Federal Public Security Secretary Genaro García Luna to appear before legislators. ++ Senate Speaker Carlos Navarrete urged the federal government to reconsider and rethink the strategy it has implemented to combat organized crime and drug trafficking. ++ The Communications and Transportation Secretariat said that information it gathered regarding the helicopter crash that killed businessman Moisés Saba, indicates the craft had veered out of the regular route and was flying at an altitude lower than permitted. ++ The Interior Secretariat invited Martín Esparza, leader of the Mexican Electricians Union, to meet on January 15th to discuss resuming negotiations on the shutting down of power utility Luz y Fuerza del Centro. ++ President Felipe Calderón said his statement that 2010 will be an economic recovery year is founded, since there has been true improvement in the country’s prospects and the situation on a global scale. ++ The National Weather service warned that low temperatures will continue in the coming 72 hours… States in northern Mexico will be the most badly hit… Temperatures in Sonora, Chihuahua, Baja California and Durango could drop to minus 11 degrees Celsius.
