++ President Felipe Calderón announced that Mexico will send a humanitarian mission to Haiti after an earthquake measuring 7 points on the Richter scale left a slew of destruction there… Calderón said the mission will include search teams to help look for survivors in the rubble, will provide medical care and carry out an assessment of damages. ++ Haiti’s Embassy to Mexico is receiving canned goods, medicines and bottled water to send to thousands of people in Haiti who lost their homes in the earthquake. ++ The director of the Topos México rescue squad Daniel Hawa said that a 10-member “topo” or “mole” team was set to travel to Haiti shortly to help in rescue efforts. ++ The Congressional Permanent Committee sent a message of condolences and solidarity with the Haitian people and will donate one day’s salary of each lawmaker at the Senate and Chamber of Deputies to help the thousands of people who lost their homes in the devastation. ++ City Hall set up a collection center in the Zócalo to gather items to be sent to aid Haiti… Water, non-perishable goods and medications are being requested… Medications must still be valid, that is to say, their expiration dates must still have not been reached. ++ In view of the hikes to fuels and basic goods the PRD, PT and Convergencia submitted a bill to reform the first article of the Law on Income of the Federation… The aim is to grant the Legislative Branch power to determine maximum rates for gasoline, diesel and gas. ++ In the belief that their may already be arrest warrants issued for them, leaders of the Mexican Electricians Union are reconsidering attending a meeting set for Friday at the Interior Secretariat, said SME spokesman Fernando Amezcua.
