++ Paraguayan football player Salvador Cabañas was injured with a gunshot wound to the head in a bar on Insurgentes Sur, in the Florida district in Álvaro Obregón borough. The football player who is a forward with the America team was taken to a hospital where he underwent surgery… The physician who oversaw the operation said that Cabañas was still in serious condition but his condition was stable… The surgery did not remove the bullet lodged in his head…++ The Mexico City Attorney General’s Office said that four people were detained… The Mexico City Attorney General’s Office said it was a direct attack on Cabañas and an investigation is underway to find out whether employees at the bar changed evidence since police officers were not allowed immediatel entry into the bar…++ The bar where Cabañas was shot, the Bar-Bar, was closed down for violating local regulations. The Mexico City government condemned the attack on football player Salvador Cabañas. ++ Now let´s talk about political news. As a seminar to analyze political reform began at the Senate, PRI Senate caucus leader Manlio Fabio Beltrones, said the pace of political change in Mexico has overtaken the capacity to adapt of institutions and legal standards. ++ The PAN said it would not enter into any political alliance to launch a candidate jointly with another party if that candidate fails to recognize Felipe Calderón as President of Mexico. ++ For the fifth consecutive day the Mexican Stock Exchange closed down… The IPC stock index dropped 1. 19 percent to reach 30,465. 06 points. ++ President Felipe Calderón launched a program to fight obesity in Mexico. The president was witness to the signing of the National Accord for Nutritional Health to battle overweight and obesity affecting 70 percent of adults in the country and 30 percent of the nation’s children.
