The Bhutan Kingdom, hidden high in the Himalayas Mountains, had the glory of one of the most inaccessible state of the world until now. The attitude of the Bhutan’s people and their government towards the foreigners is the following- there should be as few tourists as possible in order not to break the solitude of inhabitants and the peaceful way of their life.

It should be mentioned, that the Bhutanese really have things to preserve. Their country is a Buddhism stronghold, precisely here the ancient Tibetan culture is preserved in an untouched form after the capture of Tibet by the Chinese. The Bhutanese had hardly defended their independence from the encroachments of socialist China, that had asked India and the Great Britain for help.

The medieval texts name Bhutan as «The Hidden Sacred Country» because for a long time this small state practically did not interfere with the external world, and very few people knew about its existence. Inhabitants aspired to the Enlightenment, llamas and Bhutanese kings ruled over them.

Lately the authorities of the country have decided however to go on some concessions to the curiosity of foreigners. The conditions of visiting became a little bit easier though none is allowed to travel “savagely”. The visa only cost 20 dollars, but it is necessary to pay 200 dollars in advance for every day of staying in the country. This sum includes the expense of a car with a guide, expecting you at the airport after the arrival, and also the drinks and meal in the hotel where you will be taken to. You could even find hotel deals for this country at the travel services web-sites.

You may not refuse to be accompanied since this is there way, you will be accompanied by all means by a Bhutanese with a smile recalling the image of the Buddha in local temples. For the Curious you may not go beyond the limits of restraint, accepted in the country.  Which is why you must be accompanied at all times in the country.
