“Oblivion” Takes Top Spot at Weekend Box Office
Riding on its highly anticipated status, “Oblivion” soared to the top spot in this weekend’s box office for the weekend of April 19-21, 2013. The Tom Cruise-fronted action adventure grabbed an impressive $38. 2 million for its freshman weekend in theaters. Sliding into second was last week’s number one, the Jackie Robinson bio-pic “42,” garnering $18 million for it’s sophomore run. Rounding out the top five was the animated adventure film “The Croods” ($9. 5 million) in third, the comedy horror flick “Scary Movie 5” ($6. 3 million) in fourth, and the Bruce Willis and Channing Tatum film “G. I. Joe: Retaliation” ($5. 8 million) in fifth.
