Box Office: “Oblivion” Takes Friday Top Spot
Riding on its highly anticipated status, “Oblivion” soared to the top spot in Friday’s box office for the weekend of April 19-21, 2013. The Tom Cruise-fronted action adventure grabbed $13. 3 million for its debut in theaters and is working its way toward a $37. 5 million weekend. Sliding in to second spot was last week’s number one, the Jackie Robinson bio-pic “42,” garnering $5. 1 million for Friday and is on its way to a $17. 6 million sophomore run. Rounding out the top five in estimated earnings are the animated adventure film “The Croods” ($9. 7 million) in third, the comedy horror flick “Scary Movie 5” ($5. 8 million) in fourth, and the Bruce Willis and Channing Tatum film “G. I. Joe: Retaliation” ($5. 7 million) in fifth.
