Olympics Champs Missy Franklin & Aly Raisman’s Parents Talk Stress & Gold Medals
Leaving your family for weeks at a time would be hard for most teenagers, but it’s all part of being an Olympian for 17-year-old U. S. swimmer Missy Franklin. The gold medal winner hadn’t seen her parents for three weeks, according to her mother D. A. Franklin. On Monday, Missy won the women’s 100m backstroke in record time, just 14 minutes after her qualifying swim for the 200m freestyle finals. After winning the gold, the proud parents finally reunited with their daughter. Dick and Mrs. Franklin spoke with the “Today Show” about their daughter’s performance and the excitement over her tweet from pop superstar Justin Bieber. Meanwhile, another set of Olympic parents got a taste of fame themselves. Rick and Lynn Raisman were captured by cameras hanging on daughter Aly’s every move during her gymnastics qualifying round. “I?m embarrassed watching it now,? Rick said. ?You don?t even realize it, you are so locked in. ?There’s no need for embarrassment now, though. Aly and the U. S. Women’s Gymnastics team snagged the gold medal today (July 31).
