Legalization? Continuing the debate. . . To the despair of society for the increase in violence related to organized crime, arguments for the legalization of drugs would appear to be taking more roots. It is important to discuss all options to resolve the violence in the country, but we must be clear that the way they are presenting the arguments of those who are in favor of legalizing some drugs, like marijuana, will not solve the violence is living in the country. It could even exacerbate the problems we are facing short term. The arguments for and against are relatively simple. Those in favor assume that legalization would reduce the “business” enough so they can not buy weapons, pay payroll and corrupt officials and police. Those who are against legalization argue that this would lead to more consumption and thus more addictions. To continue click here. . Those who favor and those against do not listen to each other. I personally think that this debate is misguided. The question is what would happen if drugs were legalized and have greater access to illicit drugs? Where will eventually passes the drug consumption and where consumption is expected to be more violence and crime. The drug has become a lucrative business for those who sell and a major public health problem. In Mexico, drug use has increased alarmingly. According to the latest National Survey of Addictions, 2008, 6% of Mexicans said to have used drugs once in their life. Compared to what is consumed in the U.S., Mexican addicts are minimal, what is certain is that is growing in a precipitous way.
