++ Some 2,000 federal Public Security Secretariat agents began a “zero tolerance” program in Ciudad Juárez whereby they carry out random checks to lower crime rates. ++ According to the U. S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives about 300,000 new weapons yearly cross the border from the United States into Mexico… These are automatic weapons, machine guns, rocket launchers, anti-aircraft machine guns and anti-tank rockets. In an interview with Excélsior, Interior Secretary Fernando Gómez Mont admitted that he had negotiated with the PRI that his former party the PAN, would not ally itself with the PRD in races for governor, particularly in the state of Oaxaca. ++ More than 2,500 families in the Chalco area were affected by floods… Chalco City Hall will request that the Chamber of Deputies issue a decree so that the families won’t have to pay property tax and water bills. ++ Federal Roads and Highways said that it lost 25 million pesos in unpaid tolls because of the floods. ++ Residents from the San Isidro district in Valle de Chalco who were protesting on the Mexico-Puebla highway clashed with state police… Protesters were demanding more help from authorities. ++ The National Water Commission will check 15 points on the Río de la Compañía sewage network considered to be potentially dangerous after the 50-meter break in the pipe caused sewage water to flood over. ++ President Felipe Calderón toured areas affected by flooding and mudslides in Angangueo, Michoacán… Citizens asked the president for help with no intermediaries. ++ Interior Secretary Fernando Gómez Mont met with Mexico City Mayor Marcelo Ebrard to discuss civil protection efforts in the aftermath of heavy rains that affected four boroughs. ++ A PRI deputy in the Federal District Assembly is suffering from A H1N1 influenza and was sent to hospital… Officials immediately ordered that all workers at the Federal District Legislative Assembly be inoculated and the vaccinations began to be applied. ++ A judge issued a criminal arrest warrant for José Jorge Balderas Garza, known as “JJ,” and who is accused of shooting and severely wounding América team soccer player Salvador Cabañas on January 25. Balderas Garza is being charged with attempted murder.
