++ President Felipe Calderón announced that Mexico donated eight million dollars to Haiti, after the United Nations made a plea to make a special donation. … The earthquake that measured 7 points on the Richter scale created havoc in the poverty-stricken Caribbean nation, with thousands dead and capital Port-au-Prince practically razed to the ground…++ Haitian authorities have buried 40,000 people who were killed in the quake and another 100,000 are feared dead… Street gangs have begun to take over streets and authorities fear an outbreak of violence. ++ Meanwhile 10 Mexican citizens who were in Haiti arrived home… The Mexican embassy continued the search for another 38 Mexicans out of a total of 80 in the country when the quake struck… ++ Mexican ship Huasteco departed carrying aid for Haiti and another ship, Potosino is set to leave in a week. ++ Authorities confirmed that Karen Valero Jaques, the Mexican citizen killed in Haiti in the quake, was from Querétaro. ++ The Mexican search and rescue team began its task in an area devastated by the quake in Haiti… Members of the Red Cross, the ERUM and the Topos or Mole Brigades were assigned to Zone Eight of the Haitian capital, near the downtown area, one of the hardest hit. ++ Chaos in Haiti has kept a Mexican Armed Forces plane carrying medications and hospital supplies grounded in Cozumel as it awaits the go-ahead to fly to Port-au-Prince. ++In other news, Economy Secretary Gerardo Ruiz Mateos acknowledged that gradual fuel rate increases feed into inflation. ++The Mexican Stock Exchange lost ground dropping to its lowest level since November 26, 2009…. The IPC stock exchange index fell 1. 43 percent.
